The high molecular weight DISPERBYK®-163 deflocculates pigments via steric stabilization of the pigments. It provides electrical charge to pigments and thus avoids possible co-flocculation of pigments that are not equally charged. Due to the small particle sizes of the deflocculated pigments, high gloss is achieved and color strength improved. Additionally, transparency and hiding power are increased. The additive reduces viscosity. Subsequently, leveling is improved and higher pigment loading is possible.
DISPERBYK®-163 is the preferred additive for silk screen inks and for the formulation of pigment concentrates. DISPERBYK®-163 is successfully used in many applications. However, for new developments we recommend to use DISPERBYK®-2163.
